I have attended this fantastic course. Not only does Robert focus on all of the day to day issues that arise with piano repairs, he also looks at restoring piano mechanisms, improving a piano’s sound and all delivered in such an approachable and kind way. I was made so welcome on the course by all and it became a second home for the past month.
I vastly improved as a piano tuner and have been given the confidence too to make a very good business in this profession. I only have positive words and memories of being on the course 🙏 🎹

Comprehensive and Practical Piano Tuning Training

I thoroughly enjoyed my training with Robert at the Piano Tuner Academy. He not only taught me how to tune pianos but also covered all the basics of repairing and regulating them, equipping me with the essential skills to service pianos and work professionally in the field. Robert also provided valuable insights on how to secure work through website development and search engine optimization, along with professional conduct and business mindset.
During the course, Robert offered me a paid opportunity to tune a piano at a church, which showcased the practical application of his teaching and affirmed my hard work. This experience demonstrated the effectiveness of Robert's instruction and gave me the confidence to pursue piano tuning as a career after a relatively short period of training.

Invaluable course

Taking Robert’s course at the Piano Tuner Academy was a big decision for me, but I am so glad I did it. I learnt so much in the 5 weeks I was there. Eight months on, I run my own business as a piano tuner, and this would not have been possible without Robert’s expert guidance. Robert is a highly experienced piano technician and also a brilliant teacher. He really tailored the course to me and was patient and encouraging through the challenging parts of the process. As well teaching the skills of the piano tech trade, he also teaches the business side of things, which is invaluable to me now. Since finishing the course, Robert has continued to support me, and is always a text away when I need advice. I must also say that Robert and Helen made me feel so welcome in Newport, and I enjoyed spending time with them throughout the course. I could not recommend it highly enough if you want to work as a piano tuner!

I absolutely loved my time on the course, there was so much to learn but Robert kept it fun and engaging throughout. He is a fantastic teacher and imparts a wealth of knowledge and experience with clarity, patience and humour. Helen took such great care of us with delicious lunches and we were made to feel so welcome during our time on the course. I am so excited to be a self employed piano technician and the French polishing means I am able to offer full restoration and is another very enjoyable income stream. An excellent Piano Tuning & Repair course!

I have just completed the Piano Tuning and Repair Diploma at the Piano Tuner Academy and I must say it has been one of the best courses I have ever been on. In your five weeks you get 'one-to-one' training on how to tune a variety of pianos which was incredibly fun and enjoyable. In addition to piano tuning you learn about regulation, repair and restoration , which also includes the art of French Polishing. The course is well structured and at no point do you feel overwhelmed as Robert explains everything so clearly. I had a lot of questions but Robert always had the answers and gave some great advice. He also said that I could contact him in the future if I ever needed further advice with regard to tuning and repair. The hospitality that Robert and his wife Helen showed me will never be forgotten and I would unreservedly recommend this course. Thank you Robert for all your help and support.

My experience of the piano tuning and French polishing course was amazing. Robert's instruction was humorous and thorough making sure I grasped every concept discussed. The quality of the content, and the level of service were excellent. The maximum of two students to any group works very well. It was well worth the money, and I'm looking forward to starting my new business!

The best learning experience I have ever had!
I have just completed the Piano tuning, repairing and French polishing course at the Piano Tuner Academy in Newport.
The course was intense, very interesting and well organised, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Robert is a very skilled, passionate and experienced piano tuner and a great teacher. He loves what he does and he passes on the knowledge he acquired in 35+ years in the trade, as well as lessons from his own experience. He is always encouraging and praising any progress made and his sense of humour makes the course even more enjoyable.
As the course is one-to-one, all the hours dedicated to tuning under Robert’s supervision provided me with great confidence in the level of competence I have achieved.
As always, behind a great man there is a great woman! Robert’s wife Helen is a constant support and goes out of her way to make Robert’s students feel welcome and at home.
I strongly recommend this course to anyone wishing to learn or advance their knowledge of pianos!

"Couldn’t recommend this highly enough for anyone looking for a life changing career change or development. The course is thorough and Roberts expertise ensures you learn everything you need within the time required time frame. The hospitality that Robert and Helen showed me during my time in Wales made the course even better.
It was a big risk coming across from Australia but it is the best decision I have ever made. I feel fully equipped with the skill set and knowledge to get stuck in to it all back home now. If you’re looking for a sign to do this course, this is it. You won’t regret it!"

"Had such a fantastic time at the academy, Robert is a great teacher and a very knowledgeable Piano technician. He was able to adapt his teaching to a way that really worked for me and helped me through every step of the course. It’s so great that he teaches one to one, as any questions you have or parts of the course that you struggle with he is there to help. Robert is able to explain, demonstrate a task or technique and then is able to watch and guide you through it. Making sure your able to complete all tasks. "I have just completed the piano tuning, repairs and restoration 6 week course at Newport Piano Tuner Academy. It has been a joy to be taught by someone as experienced, skilful and passionate about the subject as Robert King.
I feel excited that my new business is already launched as Robert encouraged me to build a website during the course. This means that I already have several bookings to tune pianos in the two weeks after this course!
Robert also taught me French Polishing which means that I now have two new trades.
Robert is a great teacher with a fantastic sense of humour, and has a sixth sense in terms of how students learn and at what speed. He is very positive and has helped me to feel confident that I'm ready for this new life!"

"If you are considering learning to tune pianos then you have come to the right place! What quickly becomes clear is just how complete a training you will get from Robert not just in tuning, but also repair, restoration and wood finishing. I have just completed the course and I am off to do paid tunings straight away, which just confirms that it was a great decision.
As it is one to one tuition and Robert is with you all day, the amount of ground covered is quite amazing. His students are in a position to trade confidently and effectively and as he mentioned several times, is happy to help if a future job requires advice.
It also comes across just how passionate about these skills he is, which is infectious. Highly recommended."

"I recently completed an intense 5 week Piano Tuning and Repair Diploma course with Rob.
The course had a very organised structure, mostly tuning in the mornings and covering other more technical aspects of the piano, such as repair work in the afternoons, providing plenty of variety.
Rob was always conscious of offering plenty of breaks if needed - which is important!
I liked Rob’s delivery throughought, his natural humour and witty catchphrase created a relaxed atmosphere, and he showed plenty of patience explaining things, going over the same points until everything was understood completely, and also ready to praise when he saw progress during the training process.
I felt confident enough after 3/4 weeks to go out tuning for clients, which is a testament to Rob’s training. It’s been a life-changing course to me personally, so glad I took the plunge, it’s well worth the investment, especially the post-course advice Rob provides. Always on the other side of the phone.
